Kenise Barnes Fine Art/Larchmont Manipulation:Contemporary Photographs by Stacy Greene, Stuart Hawkins, Janice Sloane, Joni Sternbach, Tenesh Webber
Kenise Barnes, an art dealer with an auction house background,
has been quietly mounting daring exhibitions in her Larchmont gallery for
two years now. Her recent exhibition follows suit by exploring new directions
in contemporary photography. As the title suggests, an intervention__ in medium,
subject or both--either readily seen or hidden from view, defines this clever
collection by five artists who use traditional and new techniques.
Three
large black-and-white photographs by Canadian artist Tenesh Webber feature
a single object on a black background, made mysterious through the layering
of multiple negatives and evasive titles like Departure. The effect is playful--like
looking at cloud formations or gyroscope designs--but the scale and palette
offset this by heightening the formal qualities.
